Mansfield & District Model Flying Club

Gateway to fun

Welcome....

Thanks for stopping by and checking out our club website. Please take a look around and feel free to link to our website.

Firstly a little bit about our clubs history....

Trainer with Pupil

The club was first started as a control line model club called The Phoenix Model Engineering Society in 1955. By 1959 the club saw radio controlled models starting to make an appearance, flying from a field located near to Coxmoor Golf Club. We moved around 5 other sites until in 1992, we settled at our current location and have been here ever since. We are proud to have been the home for many F3A competitions and our club is very active in this area of the sport and have had many successes over the years. We have attracted entrants from Glasgow to Devon and even guest flyers from Sweden and South Africa to name a few.

The club is made up of pilots ranging through all levels of flying skill, from beginners to World Class competition F3A pilots and many with 3D abilities. At present we have just over 70 active members who are welcoming and pleasant and full of knowledge that they will happily share with any newcomer. We are expecting the membership numbers to rise this year as the season progresses. Models types vary from scale to stunt; 3D, trainers, sport, gliders, jet, FPV and recently, quadcopters are starting to make an appearance.

We have a handful of fixed-wing pilots who also have helicopters or quadcopters, but we are primarily a fixed-wing club. Regretfully we cannot cater for pilots who fly helicopters or quadcopters exclusively and similarly we are unable to offer tuition for those models.

Why not come visit us with a view to joining our club. If you are a beginner, we recommend you come visit us before purchasing any equipment. In fact, we can probably organise a trial flight so you can see if you wish to pursue what we all find is an absorbing hobby.
